The only reason I'm using this picture is because this is Round 2.0. Also, I love Mari. Image by Hiramatsu Tadashi.
This is breaking my usual posting routine, but I somehow overlooked the fact that I’m competing today. So, to my visitors from the Aniblog Tourney, hello!
For this round, I’m up against Borderline Hikikomori, a team blog that mostly focuses on episode impressions. I’d love to comment on their work as much as they comment on mine, though sadly I’m always a bit behind on my viewing schedule. But they’re lovely people, so do pay them a visit.
If anyone has any concerns, burning questions, that sort of thing, please post here; the floor is open. Otherwise, have a wonderful day.

I never even get noticed in any of these things. But I won the only competition that really counts – Sydney Morning Herald’s Screen Play Blog comp – which won me a Playstation 3 in a time when I didn’t know if I would get a console that Christmas.
The reason I don’t get nominated for these blog tourneys outside of “nationally endorsed media blogging comps” is because I just don’t stand out against the crowd in terms of what anime or manga I review. That and ever since I finished writing my first full length novel the writer’s block has set in and it’s horrible. More horrible than being hit by a car – which by the way has temporarily slowed my Tekken gaming hand.
I’m not against blogging tourneys – they give the community something nice – but as long as they’re not mean spirited like Otaku Elimination Game was. So far I’ve been finding myself reading more manga than watching anime – mostly because I’m a busy man at the moment.
By the way, 2DT I think you’re the first guy in the blogosphere ever to do a “bancho” post – that was the most informative and insightful/personal thing I’ve seen from you in weeks, and you pretty much have a stellar run every week you update.
I look up to you, but I don’t want to be too competitive with you because I know far less about Japan than you do, and I don’t live there. Maybe some posts on Western trends the Japanese love would be hilarious?
May 13, 2010 at 3:13 pm
But wow, a PS3! That’s pretty fantastic, right there. A belated congratulations to you.
Oh, I’m sure somebody wrote about banchos while Minami-ke was still airing. I got that picture from Google Image Search, after all.
Hmm, western trends… Okay, that’s something I’ll have to chew on for a bit. Thanks! And do take care of your Tekken hand.
May 13, 2010 at 3:48 pm
Dude, what are you complaining about? You’re ranked 14th overall.
May 14, 2010 at 3:26 am
Huh. I guess you didn’t even realize that you’re facing me in about a week and a half.
I plan to talk a lot of smack talk against you, unless you really don’t want me to.
May 13, 2010 at 9:26 am
Funny, I love Mari too. Mari Illustrious. Goodness, that has a lovely ring to it.
Hey hey, remember what happened with Kenshin pillow. HURHURHUR.
May 13, 2010 at 3:16 pm
Doesn’t it, though? Mari Makinami Illustrious. I don’t even care that I’ve never heard of a single person from the western world with the last name “Illustrious.”
And, no, actually. I don’t remember what happened with my Kenshin pillow. I can only assume you’re taking good care of it like I’d want you to…
May 14, 2010 at 5:40 am
aH~ it’s in the hOuse probabLy somEwhere. i was actually talkin aBoot when i bROughT HomE a Replica verSion of your pillow.
May 13, 2010 at 10:16 am
Burning questions? Hmm.
What are your three sizes?
May 13, 2010 at 3:19 pm
I’ve never tried getting a chest or hip measurement before. I have some measuring tape handy, but you know… I guess I really should just say “secret!”
May 13, 2010 at 11:29 am
Anime tourney, I had completely forgotten about that… orz.
Either way, good luck on the tourney! I’ll be struggling to think of where I should cast my vote even though I’ve yet to cast any for the past one or two weeks xD.
May 13, 2010 at 3:20 pm
Thank you!
And yes, please vote! Lots of very interesting folks this round.
May 13, 2010 at 11:30 am
I love Mari too.
May 13, 2010 at 2:21 pm
Was totally expecting this response.
May 13, 2010 at 3:23 pm
From Omo specifically? That’s rather impressive.
May 13, 2010 at 11:47 pm
Actually, it’s pretty easy to see coming lol
May 14, 2010 at 12:48 am
What can I say? They know how it goes.
May 13, 2010 at 3:22 pm
Perfect! I always knew you would have fine taste in Eva girls.
May 14, 2010 at 12:49 am
More people in the world needs to know how fine, her lines.
May 13, 2010 at 12:45 pm
Any other chef’s recommendations this time?
Anyways, you have lovely writing and fascinating posts, so yea. ^ ^
May 13, 2010 at 3:27 pm
Hmm…
Well, I liked my original bunch quite a bit already. But I suppose I’d also want to draw attention to my posts on Sora no Woto (http://2dteleidoscope.wordpress.com/2010/02/12/sora-no-woto-dead-languages-and-traumatic-mysteries/) and the Nanoha movie (http://2dteleidoscope.wordpress.com/2010/03/18/superflat-dimensionality-and-the-mahou-shoujo-decrypting-masculine-animation-in-magical-girl-lyrical-nanoha/). Just because I remember working rather hard on them.
Thank you so much, Yi. But in your case especially I think it takes one to know one.
Cheers.
May 13, 2010 at 12:59 pm
I think you have a very high chance of winning the tourney, or getting at least second place. You’ve become that popular in a relatively short amount of time
I’ll be voting for you again!
May 13, 2010 at 3:32 pm
I’m reminded of that old Astrud Gilberto song: “So nice, it would be so nice!”
But even if I win this one, I suspect I’ll be up against Tenka Seiha next. I’ve been reading (and very much enjoying!) him since the day I discovered Anime Nano, so it would be a very tough match.
Thank you for the vote! I’d say the phrase that people at convenience stores always say here, like “please come back again,” but to be honest I’ve completely forgotten it.
May 13, 2010 at 1:07 pm
You are gonna win it by a land slide
May 13, 2010 at 3:34 pm
Well, I don’t know about a land slide, but I certainly don’t mind winning.
Fingers crossed!
By the way, I think it’s great that you’re always so involved in the Tourney. Cheers.
May 13, 2010 at 3:48 pm
Let’s meet in Round 4. It’ll be a date.
May 13, 2010 at 3:55 pm
Ooh… Is that chill down my back from fear or anticipation?
Either way, sounds delightful! Here’s hoping I get through the next two rounds to make that happen.
May 14, 2010 at 1:22 am
>>burning questions
What kind of burning questions would I have for you?
((((((((([will you marry me?])))))))))
ONES THAT AREN’T GAY
uh… give us a top 10! TOP 10! TOP 10! TOP 10!
May 14, 2010 at 8:33 am
Well, a gay otaku wedding would really be something, huh?
Top 10! Um… let me get back to you on that. Making top number lists is surprisingly hard.
But I will get back to it, promise!
May 14, 2010 at 3:15 am
Wow, I did not know they introduced a new female pilot in Evangelion. I gotta get caught up on that reboot…
May 14, 2010 at 8:30 am
Oh yes, indeed they did:
http://2dteleidoscope.wordpress.com/2009/12/05/the-amazing-memetic-mari-impressions-of-evangelion-2-0/
Short version, she’s great.
The DVD for the movie she appears in doesn’t come out until the end of May. I suspect subs will be not long after that, though.
May 14, 2010 at 3:27 am
You’ve got this one on lock. With me backing you, you can’t lose.
May 14, 2010 at 8:28 am
Thanks for lending me some of your awesome power, Glo.
I appreciate it.
May 14, 2010 at 8:15 am
It’s a goddamn landslide victory anyway, why post this?
May 14, 2010 at 8:27 am
A couple of reasons:
First, I want new visitors to feel welcome and free to ask anything they want, rather than feeling like they’re intruding on me and my groove. And look, I got some comments from people who usually don’t! Worked like a charm.
Secondly, I want to promote the purpose of the tournament, which is to put the spotlight on other blogs. Especially since I like these folks at Borderline Hikikomori, I want to acknowledge them properly and encourage other people to check them out.
Besides, I posted this a while before the poll went live. I may be vain, but assuming I’d win this one is just plain guessing.
May 14, 2010 at 10:47 am
Congratulations in advance! Your place in the third round is locked by now.
Umm, I know that you are anticipating new faces but (looking around) I can only see familiar faces here
BTW, I ‘ll always vote for you as long as you are not competing against me
May 14, 2010 at 11:56 pm
True, no “for-really-real” new faces.
But Netto, sdshamshel and Owen hardly ever chime in, so I’m still pleased with the turnout.
Thanks! I just don’t vote in competitions I’m in, so I’m definitely the same for you.
May 15, 2010 at 1:38 pm
Lol, it has been a long long while since I last surfed around the Internet for anime blogs, and I finally got some time to chance around this AniBlog thing and led myself here to read some entries. It’s always useful to look at other blogs to see what is good out there. I always find it amazing how there are so many way better writers out there, and it makes me feel quite sad at times
I must say that I learned quite a bit on writing here, and it will be useful to try such a writing style in THAT Anime Blog. particularly due to my hectic work schedule. Still, good luck on this AniBlog tourney. I have no doubts that my blog will be kicked out because we don’t really do editorials that often, but who cares. It’s good for the new blogs to have a nice community.
Heads up, Scamp too, for the good work here. ^^
May 15, 2010 at 1:59 pm
For some reason this comment was tagged as spam. Sorry about that!
Thanks for the kind words. Editorial or not, I happen to think you have a fighting chance.
Good luck to you, too!
May 15, 2010 at 3:58 pm
Not really bothered though about the contest. I only knew it existed today, so it is good for the blogs who need more exposure. =/. I mean, I hardly blogged anymore, and it’s amazing how there are so many new blogs out there.
May 15, 2010 at 9:04 pm
The fact that you can get Impz to come out and comment on here says something though. Keep on trucking. \o
May 16, 2010 at 2:34 am
BigN, when did I ever become the measurement of quality anywhere. I am known as the writer with no talent
May 15, 2010 at 11:32 pm
I should be working on packing up my room, but I’m not. Even though by Tuesday morning I have to have vacated the premises and begun the long trek back to the home of my youth! But, no, I’m leaving pointless comments on your blog instead~ And screaming along to techno remixes of songs from Clannad, Air, and Kanon. I am now officially hoarse in time for graduation. And sunburnt.
May 15, 2010 at 11:39 pm
Congratulations on graduating! Don’t spend too long at home; you’ll go stir-crazy.
Thanks for leaving a comment.
May 16, 2010 at 3:16 am
Aww, thanks. I’m actually probably going on active duty by January, and have training dates this summer, so I don’t anticipate being at home much longer.
