That building would look interesting to me no matter where I saw it. Even though Virginia Beach is from ultra-early America (like, we’re where the fucking shit started), there aren’t a lot of old buildings at all. I suspect we just tore all that shit down some time between the fifties and now. In a nearby city, Portsmouth, there’s a downtown area called “old towne” which is all old houses and buildings refurbished to look nice, and that place pretty much impresses everyone in the Hampton Roads area lol.

I should say, no interesting or purpose-driven old buildings. There’s plenty of shitty ancient shacks and houses in the middle of nowhere.

Six hours by train? I go that far to get the best spaghetti in Switzerland.

Isn’t train cheaper in Japan anyway?

Hm… I’m usually very captivated by your podcasts, but for some reason I feel that this one fell short of the mark.
It might just be the length, though. Kept me wanting more, haha.
Keep up the work, 2DT!

I do wish that I’d strengthened the rhetorical link between western-style Japanese architecture and Japanese-style western fandom, looking back. That’s such an important and fascinating part of how Hiroki sees the world.
But oh well; my name isn’t George Lucas. What will be will be.
Thanks for listening.
