To start, 2-D Teleidoscope is an anime blog.
Paul Graham says that this is the age of the essay, so that’s what I do: I write mini-essays about modern Japanese visual culture.
As a rule, I try to relate anime to something else, which could be a theory or book, or it could be a dessert recipe. Anime and manga are not closed systems; they are connected to a wider world of interesting things, which becomes apparent if you just take a moment to look.
Whether or not the results are insightful, I’ll leave up to you. But I do love comments.
Who I am:
Formerly an English teacher in Tottori Prefecture, Japan, now a poor writer living in Southern California. I like vanilla bean ice cream, cappuccino and old books.
My favorite anime is Video Girl Ai. Beyond that, I try not to be picky, but that doesn’t always work.

“In plainer terms, this is an all-purpose cross-culture blog with an emphasis on anime and manga.”
Just admit already that you’ve given in a little bit to your inner KYAAAAAA.

Hi – I’m a friend of Yumeka’s and have recently started reading and enjoying your blog. I envy you, living in the place where those delicious TOTTORI PEARS come from – the juiciest and most succulent fruit on the planet.
I’m a yaoi fan and would love to read your yaoi/BL fans thesis. I’ve also written a bit on being a yaoi fan on my blog, http://jansuzukawa.blogspot.com/. Best of luck in your teaching job, and on living at the epicenter of that strange and wonderful culture – Japan.

I’m aiming to rehaul my blogroll soon in an annotated-separate-page style, so I’m putting a temporary moratorium on adding to the one I have now. But I like your work.
We’ll keep in touch!

The pureness of your fandom blinds me my friend. It’s been a long while since I’ve seen anyone this balanced of a writer follow and report on the comics and anime seen. You have my full congratulations.
Cheers,
Me

I just found this blog through your comment on ‘Borderline Hikikomori,’ and I must say that I thoroughly enjoy reading your work! I’m fairly new to the world of blogging, but your approach is one that I endeavor to incorporate in my future attempts. It’s also nice to see fellow English peers appreciate what anime has to offer. I look forward to reading more from you

Hello,
I was reading your reviews and comments about anime, and I think you have a great blog here, love how you related Stein’s Gate to the Dark Matter theory, you made a very interesting post and still relate it to anime, Good job! Also, might you be interested in a link exchange? Let me know if you do ^^

Hi there,
One of the more memorable pieces is how you related K-On with that Mono no Aware concept of bittersweet longing. I just finished watching the series (yeah I’m a late adopter) and this nailed the 1st season impression.
I found your blog last night, and has been digging through your archive ever since. I like your style
By the way, I find myself interested in cyberpunk stories, would you kindly recommend me some anime in that direction? Other than Ghost in the Shell and Lain!

A very nice blog and very quality work (way better than what I had in mind).
Keep up the good work.

Your writing was what I enjoyed the most. The things you merged were really fun to read. I enjoyed going through your blog. Talented anime bloggers like you should inspire others so that the culture stays alive and people would get close to this awesome pop culture.
